A winter time is here again and every Frisian wishes only the same – let Eleven cities tour (Elfstedentocht) come to alive. For the ones who don’t know, Elfstedentocht is ice skating race about 200 km long. Through canals, rivers and lakes of 11 Frisian towns take part various participants. Annemaaike Bakker from De Stormruiter: „I never sat on a horse before“
Annemaaike Bakker plays the female lead character in the production “de Stormruiter”, based on a novel by Theodor Storm. “De Stormruiter”, is presented to the audience from September until October 2018 in the WTC Expo in Leeuwarden, which is especially created for Cultural Capital 2018 Leeuwarden-Fryslân. The story themes are the fight against water and the formation of the Friesian Horse. Leeuwarden is known as the capital of the prosperous, agricultural province Fryslân. A province with nearly 3.000 dairy farms and more than 280.000 dairy cows. Fryslân is the home of the Frisian cow. Fryslân’s economy is sustained by agriculture and tourism. As international students, we have plenty of opportunities to experience the cultural and social life of Leeuwarden but that does not really cover what being a Frisian citizen means. More
