Elfstedentocht, the Tour of the tours, the dream of the dreams

A winter time is here again and every Frisian wishes only the same – let Eleven cities tour (Elfstedentocht) come to alive. For the ones who don’t know, Elfstedentocht is ice skating race about 200 km long. Through canals, rivers and lakes of 11 Frisian towns take part various participants. There are ones who want to just enjoy the race as the leisure time activity and the ones who really want to participate in this legendary race. Usually they are 16 thousand people but the finish line pass only one percent of them. More

Annemaaike Bakker from De Stormruiter: „I never sat on a horse before“

Annemaaike Bakker plays the female lead character in the production “de Stormruiter”, based on a novel by Theodor Storm. “De Stormruiter”, is presented to the audience from September until October 2018 in the WTC Expo in Leeuwarden, which is especially created for Cultural Capital 2018 Leeuwarden-Fryslân. The story themes are the fight against water and the formation of the Friesian Horse. The food heaven on the Friday market

Have you ever wondered why the city of Leeuwarden is always so busy on Fridays and why everyone is hurrying  in the city center? Well, that is because of the farmers market, which is a temporary market organized only on Fridays on Wilhelminaplein, and for those who don’t know Leeuwarden yet, that’s in the city center, in front of the Fries Museum.
